Graduation cermemony returns to campus for Spring 2022

Los Rios campuses are reintroducing an in-person graduation ceremony for Spring 2022.

This time around, the Cosumnes River College graduation will be outdoors and graduates who have an expected graduation term of Summer 2021, Fall 2021 or Spring 2022 are allowed to participate.

Study abroad program reopens for fall

The Los Rios Community College District has reopened the Los Rios Study Abroad program after pausing the program for two years due to COVID-19.

LRCCD’s partnership with the American Institute For Foreign Study offers students the opportunity to study abroad in London, England this fall from Sept. 8 to Dec. 9.

“Students need to be vaccinated, at least 18 years old, have a GPA of 2.25 or higher and have completed at least 12 college units,” said Folsom Lake College Biology Professor Fran Kelle

Transfer center resumes in-person services

After operating completely online for two years, the Cosumnes River College Transfer Center is now offering in-person services.

Student Personnel Assistant Emily Barkley said students have to meet the vaccination requirements to be eligible for in-person appointments.

“For in-person and for the virtual drop-ins, students can basically ask transfer questions that they have and we can assist them through the process,” Barkley said.

A college experience on ground

After spending three semesters learning online due to a global pandemic, the return to campus seemed so dreadful.

I had my first in-person class on Feb. 2, which was television production and boy, did I have cold feet.

With journalism classes being hands-on, thoughts of uncertainty washed over me.

Should I risk stepping foot on campus when my mom and I are at high risk of severe illness from COVID-19? Is being a journalism major worth it? What did I get myself into?
